CVMC Men’s Bible Study: 1 Corinthians 2:1 – 16 (WISDOM)

Today I was challenged with this passage and specifically verse 12 “We have not received the spirt of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.”  And verse 14 “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned”.  I must admit that I try to rely on my own wisdom and strength in facing life’s issues, unless they are really big then I am good at asking God for help.  I also have tried to use my own knowledge and wisdom to convince others of God’s love, essentially getting into heated debates where I try to convince others of the error in their thinking or logic.  However, this passage reveals why it doesn’t seem to work.  The information that I am trying to convey is not a head knowledge that logic rules but it is wisdom that is “spiritually discerned.”  So, if someone reads my blog and is seeking God then I will help, but getting into debates with other people who already have their mind made up and are seeking to simply argue is not fruitful and I am choosing not to engage in that type of debate.

Matthew 7:6 says “Do not give dogs what is sacred, do not throw your pearls to pigs.  if you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces”.  I have tried to debate and someone told me that it usually is just an argument with sides that already firmly believe that they are right and is pretty useless.  I agree.
